RE: International Fund Seed Money, Request for Proposals
DATE: May 2, 2006
The International Education Committee of the School of Education has a modest amount of resources allocated to it by the Dean each year to use as “seed money” to encourage the development of projects, courses, and programs with an international focus that will benefit students, faculty, and staff in the School. This allocation is not intended to support programs over time. The focus of the fund is to encourage the development of innovative activities that align School of Education efforts with campus-wide initiatives to accelerate internationalization.

The Committee invites proposals from faculty and staff in the School of Education that further the goal of internationalization within the School. The committee will review applications in September, November, February, and April each year and recommend to the Dean which proposals should be funded and, if funding is recommended, the specific level of funding. The proposals should be brief, no more than 2-3 pages, and should include a listing of how the funds requested would be spent. Although there is no dollar limit on proposals, we anticipate that most proposals funded will be in the $1,000 range. The Dean has allocated $8,000 to the committee for the 2007-2008 academic year.
Please note: The events/projects associated with approved RFPs must occur in the same fiscal year in which the RFPs are submitted and must be completed by the end of that fiscal year. Also, all events/projects must take place AFTER the committee meeting date in which they are approved.
We are particularly interested in supporting proposals that will benefit students and faculty throughout the School rather than those that just benefit a few individuals. We are also interested in supporting projects that may lead to additional funding by others or to an expansion of revenues for instruction. (e.g., attracting new students from other countries, providing new study abroad opportunities for students).
Examples of the kind of projects that are eligible for funding or partial funding include:
In considering the merits of each proposal, the IEC will use the following criteria:
*In 2005-2006, the members of the School of Education International Education Committee included Al Phelps (chair), Mimi Bloch, Fong Chan, Bob Enright, Carl Grant, Kerry Hill, Adam Nelson, Francois Tochon and Ken Zeichner (ex officio).
