Strategic Initiatives 2008-09

The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Education has a long and strong tradition of excellence. Year after year, our programs have been cited among the very best in the nation.

At the same time, we recognize that it is always possible to do even better, and that promoting excellence requires a continuous process of rethinking and reinventing. What are we doing especially well? What could we improve? This year, our Administrative Council (consisting of our associate deans, department chairs, and unit directors) identified eight key areas in which we are focusing special attention for continuous improvement:

  • Infuse state-of-the-art technology into our work
  • Improve culture, climate and communications
  • Communicate with and engage external audiences to create and sustain partnerships and include translation research as a partnership strategy
  • Recruit, support and retain excellent and diverse faculty, administrators, staff, and students
  • Use resources in an effective and efficient manner
  • Update and improve teacher education by working with partners on and off campus
  • Identify and acknowledge how all of our decisions affect current and prospective students
  • Engage in and sustain robust global partnerships and initiatives

The School’s dedicated faculty and staff – led by our standing school-wide committees (also listed on this website) – already are working in these areas and making significant progress.

By developing partnerships within and across departmental, unit and building lines to draw upon our collective strengths we are well-positioned to achieve these goals and further build upon the School’s excellent foundation.
