The Wisconsin Collection

The Wisconsin Collection is a comprehensive collection of books created by Wisconsin book creators.

In 2002, the CCBC entered into a partnership with the Wisconsin Reference and Loan Library to maintain this ever-growing collection. Many older books by Wisconsin authors and illustrators are now housed at Reference and Loan. The CCBC's on-site collection includes at least one title from each Wisconsin book creator for whom the library has holdings, and in some cases includes an author or artist's complete body of work.

All titles available at the CCBC can be found on the on-line catalog of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Electronic Library, MADCAT. To limit a Madcat search to CCBC holdings, click on the "set limits' button on the main search screen, scroll down to the "location" drop down menu, and highlight "Cooperative Children's Book Center."

The CCBC has an extensive collection of on-site resources about Wisconsin book creators, including annual identification records of books by Wisconsin authors and illustrators going back to 1978. These annual listings also include information on books about Wisconsin-related topics (whether or not they were created by Wisconsin book creators). We have also created an online listing of Books about Wisconsin People, Places and Topics of Interest published since 1996, and a listing of Wisconsin Publishers of Books for Children and Young Adults. (Materials about Wisconsin, and published by Wisconsin publishers, are housed in the Wisconsin Collection only if they have a Wisconsin author, illustrator, translator or compiler.)
