Presentations
Historical Fiction Workshop. These workshops turn readers into writers by walking them through the basic steps of moving from fact to fiction. . Target audience: Fourth grade and up.

Author Visit/Book Discussion. Using an inquiry approach, I discuss the research and writing process, read excerpts from one or more books, and take questions from the students. Can be tailored to meet specific needs. Target audience: Third grade and up.

Behind the Scenes. This fast-paced slide program illustrates the writing process from idea to book. It covers the wide variety of adventures I've had doing research, reinforces the need for revision, and provides a glimpse of a working writer's life. Great for large groups. Target audience: Third grade and up; appropriate for mixed audiences.

Fees
$500 for up to four programs in a single day. Additional programs can be negotiated. Two neighboring schools can split the fee. Outside of the Madison area, add 40 cents/mile. If an overnight stay is required, I will need a hotel room and modest reimbursement for meals. The need for a hotel is based on both distance and start time.

Additional Comments
I spent over a decade working as an educator for the State Historical Society of Wisconsin's Historic Sites Division, at Old World Wisconsin. I also spent ten years working as an educator with the Wisconsin Educational Communications Board, developing and scripting instructional television programs for Wisconsin students. I have an MA in History Education and Writing from Antioch University.
