There are thousands of new books published for children and young adults each year, and tens of thousands available through public and school libraries, or for purchase at bookstores, at any given time. The CCBC helps librarians, teachers, child care providers and others navigate the abundance of choices to locate the best books possible to meet their needs. CCBC Bibliographies and Booklists are thematic bibliographies created by CCBC librarians.
CCBC Book of the Week highlights a new book appreciated by the staff of the CCBC.
CCBC Choices is our annual best-of-the year list. (Past editions of CCBC Choices are now available as PDFs online through the University of Wisconsin Digital Library!)
The Charlotte Zolotow Award was established by the CCBC to recognize outstanding writing in picture books for young children.

CCBC Specialized Information

Beyond our evaluation of new books and creation of recommended booklists, the CCBC has a number of areas of ongoing interest and expertise, including:

Current Publishing Trends: read the essay from the most recent edition of CCBC Choices
Graphic Novels: graphic novel resources for libraries and classrooms
Harry Potter: our resources include review citations and award and discinction information for each HP book, articles that offer varied perspectives on the books, and an online exhibit of selected international editions of Harry Potter created by CCBC Director Kathleen T. Horning
Intellectual Freedom: information and links about book challenges in schools and libraries
Multicultural Literature: information on books by and about people of color
The Story of Mankind: an online exhibit showing the printing history of various editions of the very first winner of the Newbery Award
The Westing Game Manuscript: an online exhibit showing the various drafts of Ellen Raskin's Newbery-award-winning book as well as items from Raskin's notes and clip files. This exhibit is accompanied by an audio-tape of Ellen Raskin talking about the manuscript.

TeachingBooks.Net: comprehensive information about books for children and young adults with the needs of teachers in mind. The site is a compendium of information found on the web, from discussion guides and thematic bookslists to author and illustrator information. TeachingBooks also features original interviews with authors and artists on video, as well as audio clips of book readings. A free trial is available. (Wisconsin residents have free access to TeachingBooks via Badgerlink.)
