A mother reads to her baby

Read to Me

The Read to Me program was originally created for teenage mothers in the New York City area by Susan Straub to help these new moms establish the habit of reading to their babies as early as possible. Although it was created with teens in mind, the program is easily adaptable to any type of parent living anywhere in the world. A 30-minute video, available for previewing on the CCBC web site, demonstrates the program step-by-step, by showing teen mothers and their babies who participated in the program in 1999 at Teen Aid High School in Brooklyn, New York.
