7:30 p.m.

Wisconsin State Historical Society Auditorium

816 State Street
Madison, Wisconsin

This free public lecture is sponsored by the Cooperative Children's Book Center and the Friends of the CCBC, Inc. This event is part of the Wisconsin Book Festival.

Do I need a ticket? No. Tickets are not required.

Exactly what is happening at this event? Author Susan Patron will deliver a 45-minute lecture, aimed at adults, based on his work writing for both children and adults.

Is the lecture accessible? Yes, the Wisconsin Historical Society Auditorium wheelchair-accessible. If you need other accommodations, please call 608-263-3721. (Please read "What about construction in the campus area?" below.)

Where should I park? Lake Street Ramp, on Lake Street between University Avenue and State Street, is about 1-1/2 blocks from the Wisconsin State Historical Society.

There will also be reserved parking that evening for $10.00 in the Upper Parking area of Helen C. White Hall, 600 N. Park Street (the building in which the CCBC is located). Pay as you enter. Just drive in and say you're attending the Zolotow event.

What about the construction in campus area? There continues to be heavy construction along Park and Langdon streets. Both walking and driving around the State Historical Society and Helen C. White Hall is a challenge.

Right now, Landon Street is one way going west, Park Street between Observatory Drive and Unviersity Avenue is one way going south. (Observatory Drive itself is closed.)

The good news is that the road construction at the intersections of Park/Langdon/Observatory is done, so turning from Langdon onto Park to access the parking beneath Helen C. White Hall is easy.

Update 9/29: More good news! While there continues to be ongoing construction on Library Mall in front of the Wisconsin State Historical Society, the main entrance of the Historical Society is now accessible from the front steps.

If you are walking from Helen C. White Hall to the Historical Society, we suggest walking through the Union (enter the west doors directly across from Helen C. White Hall, then walk through the Union and exit the main entrance. There is an area to cross Langdon Street directly ahead as you exit the Union. If you are walking to the Historical Society from the Lake Street Ramp, walk across Library Mall (at the end of State Street), then follow directions below.

Handicapped Access to Historical Society: Handicapped access through the main entrance is via ramps located on the north side of the building on Langdon Street, and on the south side of the building, on Library Mall across from the Humanities Building.

Will there be autographing? Yes, Ms. Patron will autograph books after the lecture.

Will there be books for sale? Yes, Ms. Patron's books will be sold by the Wisconsin State Historical Society.

Is this a program for children? The primary audience is adults, although children and teens are welcome.

Will the lecture be webcast live? No, there will not be a live webcast of the lecture.

Will the lecture be videotaped? No, we are unable to videotape this year's lecture.

Other questions? Please call 608-263-3721 or send email to Kathleen Horning
