What IF . . .
Questions and Answers on Intellectual Freedom
- What should I do to be prepared for a possible complaint about a book?
- Is it okay to label young adult books in my K-8 library?
- As a new teacher, what can I do to avoid complaints about the books I
teach?
The CCBC can help you with responses to questions like these about intellectual freedom and censorship, especially with regard to books in classrooms and school and public libraries.
What IF is
a question-and-answer forum for teachers, school and public librarians
and others in the library and education fields. We all have questions
about intellectual freedom and challenges to materials. The What
IF forum is a
place to turn to ask these questions before a challenge occurs, and
to help you think through what the principles of intellectual freedom
look like in practice.
When you submit a confidential question to What IF you
will receive a personal response. Some questions will be chosen for
anonymous inclusion in the What IF Library so that others
may learn from them.
