Comic Books for Young Adults: A Guide for Librarians
Designed especially with librarians in mind, this site aims to introduce librarians, as well as teachers, parents, and others, to the "rich, diverse offerings from today's comics book publishers, and to encourage the acquisition of comic books and graphic novels in libraries serving young adults."

Comic Books Legal Defense Fund
Founded in 1986, this non-profit organization is dedicated to preserving the First Amendment rights of the comics industry. They have a comics censorship bibliography, case files of censorship attempts in which they've been involved as First Amendment advocates, and news of current and ongoing cases.

Comics Worth Reading
Comics reviewer and enthusiast Johanna Draper Carlson's site provides tidbits of news and critical reviews (to which readers can respond) of comics and graphic novels. Her site has been described as providing "entertaining, insightful, and above all honest" reviews of all genres of comic books by "an excellent writer and a shrewd judge of what's good and bad in comics today."

Glossary of Anime and Manga Terms
Chances are if you work with children or teens who are reading manga or watching anime, they are already in the know. Here's a site to help you get up to speed on what they're talking about.

ImageTexT is a peer-reviewed, open access journal dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of comics and related media. It is published by the English Department at the University of Florida with support from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Librarian's Guide to Anime and Manga
Here is the site that can provide those of us who aren't in the know with an explanation of Japanese comics (manga) and animated films (anime), addressing issues imprortant for libraries and librarians to understand, and providing title recommendations.

Museum of Black Superheroes
A superb look at the history of Black superheroes, this site includes an online gallery and exhibit, articles and more.

No Flying, No Tights
A graphic novel review site run by three enthusiasts, one of who is a practicing librarian. Great for both novices to the graphic novel scene and avid readers, it will be particularly helpful to adults working with children and teens wanting to learn about this field of literature and to read reviews. The main page links to three related sites: "No Flying, No Tights," the original, focuses on graphic novels for teens. "Sidekicks" looks at graphic novels for children. "The Lair" is graphic novels for adults and teens.

Secret Origins of Good Readers

Sequential Tart
This web zine about the comics industry provides news, interviews, articles and more about comics in general and about the influence of women in comics and graphic novels.

The Comics Get Serious: Graphic Novel Reviews
On hiaitus since 2002, this site features reviews and recommendations from D. Aviva Rothschild, author of Graphic Novels: A Bibliographic Guide to Book-Length Comics (Libraries Unlimited, 1995).

What Parents, Teens, Teachers and Librarians Want to Know about Graphic Novels
This terrific site created by a Canadian teacher-librarian offers targeted information for each audience (parents, teens, teachers/librarians) along with faqs, recommended titles, and links. A great starter site for those interested in graphic novels.

Women in Refrigerators
This site -- for older teen and adult fans rather than novices -- looks critically at the fate of women character in comics and graphic novels.
