STRUCTURED FIRST & SECOND YEAR EXPERIENCE
Our program offers a weeklong orientation, Strategies for Success, for new CeO students entering in the fall. We also provide the opportunity for first year students to take classes together as a group. The classes chosen meet the requirements of most majors and enhance students' academic skills and success. In order for us to provide effective services, every CeO student is required to complete writing and study skills assessments.  New CeO students are expected to complete an academic progress assessment by meeting with each of their instructors during their first two semesters at Madison.TOP

ACADEMIC AND CAREER ADVISING
The CeO Program provides ancillary academic and career advising. We work closely with departmental advisors, deans and career and placement staffs to ensure that our students understand the many options available and the requirements that must be met. Degree audit reports (DARS), interest inventories, and career exploration are utilized. The students have the opportunity to meet with our advisor to complete an individualized learning plan (ILP) which structures their academic and career goals.TOP

ACADEMIC COACHING
Through our academic coaching program students are eligible to request academic coach, which may be one-on-one or small group. Students successfully completed the courses lead these regularly scheduled study sessions.  In some cases the group leader attends the lectures along with the students and facilitates a peer learning experience following the Supplement Instruction (SI) model. Through these experiences students become successful independent learners by utilizing the transferable study skills they have acquired.TOP

ASSISTANCE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT FINANCIAL AID, HOUSING, AND OTHER UNIVERSITY SERVICES
The CeO staff are available to answer questions about financial aid, housing, and resources at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. We also serve as an advocate and assist students with personal matters.TOP

SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
Our staff work closely with students with disabilities to facilitate their learning experience. We also work collaboratively with the McBURNEY DISABLITY RESOURCE CENTER in supporting our students who needs accomodations. TOP

GRADUATE SCHOOL AND PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL ADVISING

We encourage our students to pursue graduate and professional degrees by offering informational workshops on graduate and professional schools, which provide an overview of the fields of study and of the application processes. CeO advisors are also available to advise students on a one-on-one basis. Further, CeO works collaboratively with various research programs at UW-Madison and other campuses, especially the McNair Scholars Program, to provide our students with research experience and exposure to higher education while still undergraduates. CULTURAL AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
We strive to build a learning community where our students from diverse backgrounds have opportunities to enjoy the diversity of the Madison community. To this end, we provide free social and cultural activities throughout the year for students to meet their CeO peers, faculty, and staff.TOP

INFORMATIONAL RESOURCE
The program provides a wide variety of information on topics such as scholarships, awards, grants, volunteer placements, and other opportunities to get involved in the university and the city of Madison.TOP
