During the regular school year, I am a bilingual Social Studies teacher at Verona Area High School where I teach US History, World History, and Global Issues to students in the English Language Learner/Bilingual program. I just finished my 5th year at Verona. Teaching is a second career for me. Prior to earning a teaching certificate, I worked in international customer service and marketing for a variety of manufacturing companies in Wisconsin, Illinois and California. I has also lived in Germany and Sweden and traveled in northern Europe, Mexico and Central America. I love speaking and learning new languages. I speak Spanish, German, Swedish, and some Portuguese, French and Italian. I tried learning Chinese and Vietnamese but without success; I discovered that I am basically tone deaf. When I'm not at school, I like to make beaded jewelry, read fantasy and historical fiction, and putter in the garden. Between June and August I can also be found picking strawberries, black raspberries, and elderberries which are turned into delicious jams for family and friends. This summer I'm trying a new activity: Irish dance! I chose to work with CFK this summer to participate in the program with my son, Sam. Sam's older brother Peter participated in CFK three years ago and I am looking forward to being part of the program and working with this year's 5th graders.
