Neuroscience for Kids!

Ever wondered how your brain works? Ever had a question that you could not find an answer to and that’s never covered in school? Come and join this workshop to learn about your brain, its parts, functions, and amazing abilities and explore your own personal myth. We will learn about the brain in the first hour and spend the second creating a personal PowerPoint slideshow about our burning question.

Workshop Leader(s): Sigrun Paust

Mock Trial

Do you long to stand up in a courtroom and say, “I object, your honor!” Have you sometimes wondered, “What is hearsay, anyway?” Come and experience it! Spend three days preparing to be attorneys and witnesses for testimony, and discussing trial strategy. On the fourth day, students will invite family for the jury in two complete trials.

Workshop Leader(s): Lisa Smith

Limnology

Examine and identify the animal and plant life in Lake Mendota. While on board the research vessel, LIMNOS, you will take measurements such as water temperature and oxygen concentration. You will also collect water samples and animal life for analysis. These samples will be examined under microscopes in a laboratory.
