Frequently Asked Questions

Diversity Dialogues Home | Registration | FAQ's | Agreement

 

If I need to cancel/reschedule, what should I do?

1. Online cancellations are only allowed 7 days prior to a scheduled diversity dialogue. If within the 7 day  
    time frame please follow the instructions 2-6.

  • If within the 7 day time frame please email Erin at edoolin@wisc.edu to note your cancellation prior to the diversity dialogue.
  • Please no canceling/rescheduling the day of the dialogue, if at all possible
  • If you have not emailed prior to the dialogue our facilitators will have noted your absence, but please inform prior if possible as we may have to cancel a session with too few participants and would like to notify the other students ahead of time.

2. Go to the Office of Human Resource Development (OHRD) login site.

3. Click on the Login button near the top of the page.

4. Enter your UW Net ID and password.

5. Click on My Registration near the top of the page.

6.  Find the Diversity Dialogue you registered for under Current Registrations and click on the Cancel button.

7. Scroll down and click on the Yes, Cancel Registration button.

8. Close page.

9. You will then receive a confirmation email shortly.

10.  Please reregister immediately after canceling for another Diversity Dialogue-- as we may cancel session that are not full.

Can I check to see if my enrollment for a dialogue?

1.Go to the Office of Human Resource Development (OHRD) login site
2. Sign on for Log In using your UW Madison user ID and password.
3. Click on the My Registrations tab on the page.
4. You should see a listing of your current enrollment.
5. However, please note that you only receive credit for the dialogue if you attended it in entirety (see      
    below).

What is the format of the diversity dialogues?

1. There are maximum of 10 students and 1 or 2 graduate student facilitators.
2. There will be a mix of students from your class and other classes that meet the ethnic studies
    requirement.
3. The discussions last 90 minutes on one day.
4. The groups are semi-structured which means the facilitators will have some lead-in questions and
    exercises but participants are expected to take some initiative in the discussion.

How do I get credit for my participation?

1. You will get credit by showing up and participating in the dialogues.
2. At the beginning of the dialogues, students will sign in their name and class number
3. Near the end of the semester, your instructor will receive a listing of students in his or her class that
    participated in the dialogues.
4. Also, you go to the OHRD main web site login page at www.ohrd.wisc.edu and access your Learning
    Transcript which will note your participation around 2 weeks after participating.
5. Please be sure that you sign in upon arrival.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

1. You do not need to bring anything with you, but do dress comfortable to mostly sit for 90 minutes.
2. You may also wish to bring a bottle of water to drink during the sessions as you will be expected to be
    talking during this time.

What will be expected of me for these dialogues?

1. Think about 1 or 2 diversity issues of personal interest that you would find interesting to discuss in a
    group format.
2. Be willing to speak from personal experiences and engage in the group discussion in an honest manner.
3. To be reflective and open about your own and others’ experiences related to diversity.
4. Be willing to challenge yourself and to move beyond overly safe and easy topics.

 

When will I be notified if my dialogue is cancelled due to weather?

1. The Diversity Dialogues will only be cancelled by the Dialogue Coordinators due to inclement weather or if there are less than three participants scheduled for a given dialogue.

2. In the event that your dialogue is cancelled due to weather related concerns or low enrollment, all participants scheduled will be notified via email by noon on the day of their scheduled Dialogue.
