  • The “Academic Enhancement Seminars” (AES) has been in existence since 1992, addressing the needs of students on academic probation.

  • The one-credit module is offered through the Department of Counseling Psychology (270-115), with the generous support of the Office of the Provost.

  • AES groups are lead by doctoral and masters’ students from the Department of Counseling Psychology who are well-versed in active listening, empathetic and genuine rapport building, and student empowerment skills.

  • For the 2010-2011 academic year, a total of 13 sections, with class sizes of 7 to 13, were conducted for a total of 133 students who completed the AES program in its entirety.

  • Following program participation, 74% or 98 students were cleared from academic probation with 79% or 105 students who had a semester grade point average of greater than or equal to 2.0 for the 2010-2011 academic year.

  • A total of 639 students have completed the AES program for the last six years (05-06 to 10-11), with an average of 107 students completing each year. Two-thirds (66%) of those who completed AES over the last six years were cleared from probation (n = 420) and over three-quarters (77%) had a 2.0 or above GPA (n = 493) at the end of the semester in which they completed the AES program.
