Application Process | Licensure
The Program in Professional Counseling is a program of study which combines coursework, mentorship, and supervision to enhance professional skills and to better prepare the post-masters counselor for licensure as a professional counselor (LPC).
The program's goals are to provide ongoing academic enhancement and supervision needs to the experience already earned by the Master's graduate and prepare students for professional counselor licensure. Another aim is to provide a university mentorship to School Counselors preparing for their provisional license.
The program consists of an on going supervision course (CP 270 810) of three credits, including the option to complete extra training in supervision (2 courses). The completion of the course work is expected to take 2-3 years. Please see the department's Program in Advanced Studies in Professional Counseling Brochure available for download in pdf format [Program in Advanced Studies of Professional Counseling Brochure.]
The Program in Advanced Studies in Professional Counseling is offered by the Department of Counseling Psychology to support entry-level counselors who have a Master's degree acquire their Professional Counselor License and, for School Counselors, provide the university mentorship in preparation for acquiring their provisional license.
