Dr. Yuki Okubo

Visiting Assistant Professor.

Dr. Yuki Okubo         

Professor Yuki Okubo received her undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the College of William & Mary and her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology Mental Health emphasis from Boston College. She completed her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. 

Her clinical experience ranges from working with survivors of sexual assault, college students, LGBTQ identified individuals, and families of immigrants. She has training in both brief and long-term therapy with emphasis on multicultural issues. Yuki’s clinical orientation is psychodynamic with a strong emphasis on multicultural issues and reference group memberships. Her therapeutic style is drawn from various techniques from different orientations to accommodate client’s needs and style. 

Yuki has been involved in research projects with Asian immigrants on issues of cultural adjustment and coping, and has published several articles and presented at various professional conferences. Her research interests ranges from the interactions between cultural notion of self and help seeking behaviors among Asians, coping and cultural adjustment issues for Asian immigrant families, and decision-making process among youth.

Yuki’s responsibilities during her year as Visiting Assistant Professor at UW-Madison include teaching Multicultural Counseling, Master’s practica for Counselors in Community, supervision of students, clinical work at UW-Madison Counseling Center, and being on Diversity and Social Justice Committee.
