Mindi N. Thompson received her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from The University of Akron in 2008. She completed her predoctoral internship at The University of California, San Diego and joined the faculty at The University of Wisconsin in August, 2008. She was awarded the Anna Julia Cooper Postdoctoral Fellowship, a one-year research fellowship, during the 2008-2009 academic year at UW, Madison.
Dr. Thompson has served as co-chair of the Department of Counseling Psychology’s Diversity and Social Justice Committee beginning in August 2008. She completed her postdoctoral clinical hours at UW’s Counseling and Consultation Services throughout the 2008-2009 academic year.
Her primary research interests include examining the intersection of multiple identities, individuals’ experiences with cultural “isms”, multidimensional conceptualizations of internalized social status, and vocational development and educational persistence for individuals from diverse groups. She also contributes to the scientific community by serving as an ad hoc reviewer for several journals, including Journal of Counseling Psychology, The Counseling Psychologist, and Psychology of Women Quarterly.
She teaches masters and doctoral courses, including Consultation Procedures for Counselors, Research Methods, Assessment Techniques in Counseling, and Career Counseling.
