Undergraduate Advising

To make an appointment, phone the EAS reception desk at 608-262-1651 or visit our office at B117 Education Building. Phone appointments are available for students at a distance by request.

Most current and prospective students are assigned by alphabet to a specific professional advisor in Education Academic Services. See the EAS advisor list below. We strongly encourage all students interested in School of Education programs to confer with an EAS advisor. Once admitted to a professional program, students work closely with faculty around their professional learning and career development. See information below about working with your faculty advisor.

Working with Your Faculty Advisor

To ensure personal and consistent guidance, students are assigned to both a faculty advisor and an advisor at Education Academic Services (EAS). Advisors in the School of Education work in tandem to ensure the success and well-being of our students. In turn, students are encouraged to make use of the many advising options available on this campus.

Students admitted to a program often wonder when it is appropriate to meet with EAS staff and when they should contact their faculty advisor. The following describes the roles of these two valuable resources in your professional development.

Because EAS is also the School of Education undergraduate dean's office, admitted students often confer with EAS staff around policy exceptions, some course work substitutions, and liberal studies requirements. EAS staff provide information on a wide range of campus issues and degree-related concerns. They offer support for students experiencing personal problems or having trouble navigating the campus bureaucracy. Students are assigned to EAS advisors alphabetically (call the EAS reception desk at 608-262-1651 for assignments).

EAS advisor Rene Munguia primarily works with under-represented undergraduate students in the School of Education. He provides recruitment and outreach services; admission, housing, and financial aid information; and academic advising.

Faculty advisors provide program leadership, teach professional program classes, supervise students in field experiences, and generally work with students in their professional preparation. Faculty advisors can support professional learning and growth and respond to career-related questions. Students should see their faculty advisor about issues related to the professional sequence (including exceptions to major, minor, or sequence requirements), for personal issues that might affect continuation in the program, or for practicum and student teaching problems. Faculty advisors and EAS advisors share information and work closely together for the benefit of students.

See when and how advisors are assigned for the various programs below.
