The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (ELPA) at the University
of Wisconsin-Madison held a national Wisconsin Idea Leadership Academy on
"Doubling Student Performance."
The conference featured in-depth presentations by leaders of 10 schools
and districts from around the country that have "doubled student performance"
and closed the achievement gap on state tests over the past five to seven years.
Teams of successful and performance-focused educational leaders, representing
2 districts, 4 elementary schools, and 4 secondary schools, described what they did to dramatically improve student learning.
ELPA professors discussed research they have conducted with these and
other schools and districts that have boosted student performance, identifying
cross-cutting themes that emerged from the different cases.
Closing keynote address by Kati Haycock, founder and president of the Education
Trust, and nationally known for advancing high academic achievement of all
students and closing the achievement gaps that separate low-income students
and students of color from other youth.
