Awards and Honors
- Meredith Mountford, a May 2001 PhD graduate of Educational Leadership
and Policy Analysis, will receive the 2002 Dissertation of the Year
Award from the American Educational Research Association's Special Interest
Group--Research on the Superintendency. Dr. Mountford, who is currently
an assistant professor at the University of Missouri, will receive the
award in April at the upcoming AERA convention in New Orleans.
- Dr. Connie Schroeder, a recent PhD graduate, received the Robert J.
Menges Reseach Award from the Professional and Organizational Development
Network in Higher Education at their recent meeting in St. Louis. The
award was based on her dissertation, which focused on "Faculty Change
Agents: Individual and Organizational Factors that Enable or Impede
Faculty Involvement in Change." spac

- FUNDING: WebGrant 2003, Multimedia Solutions for Web-based Learning:
DoIT (Department of Information Technology) is accepting applications
for this year's annual web grant. DoIT will award $500 to faculty and
instructional staff for unique proposals that utilizes streaming audio
and/or video within their instruction. Free consultation and training
is provided. Application deadline is November 30, 2002. More

FUNDING: Dr. Borman has two
openings for 33% to 50% time program assistants (13 to 20 hours/week)
for the upcoming 2002-2003 school year and summer. Both positions
offer opportunities to participate in research projects beginning
during the fall semester 2002. Employment beginning during the spring
semester may also be possible.

MONDAY, OCT 7, 2002: Dr. Halverson had a talk at 12:00 p.m. in Room
259 for the Ed Psych Colloquium Series. Topic: "Systems of Practice:
How Leaders Use Artifacts to Create Professional Community in Schools."

- PUBLIC LECTURE: Dr. F. King Alexander will be giving a lecture open
to the public, "Uncommon Agendas: The Market Paradox between State
and Federal Financing of Education," Tuesday September 24, in Room
259 Educational Sciences Building at 3 p.m. A Department of Educational
Leadership and Policy Analysis Alumnus and President of Murray State
University in Kentucky, Dr. Alexander will be on campus to receive a
School of Education Alumni Achievement Award and to participate in the
WISCAPE "Market Forces in Higher Education" Conference. For more information

- A message from Chair Allen Phelps: "Dr. Alicia Chávez
is stepping down from her Dean of Students position this Fall. She is
joining the Department as a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor
affiliated with the Higher and Postsecondary Education program area.
Please join me in congratulating Alicia on her decision to join the
faculty ranks! She brings an exciting and significant research agenda
to the Department, one which will enrich our graduate program immensely."
- Project Assistantships (2): The Office of International Studies and
Programs (OISP) posts the opening of the position of Graduate
Project Assistant for International Academic Programs (IAP). Two
positions are available at 50 percent time beginning on June 1, 2002
(or as soon as possible thereafter) and extending through the 2002-2003
academic year. Deadline for application: April 1, 2002.

- FUNDING: The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis
is pleased to announce a competition for up to two
Lanore A. Netzer and Glen G. Eye Scholarships for the 2001-2002
academic year. The amount of the awards will be approximately $1,500
per semester and will be made to up to two full-time graduate students
majoring in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis and supervision
of instruction. (application due April 1, 2002)
- FUNDING: Earl Hoffmann Graduate
Fellowship. Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis
is pleased to announce a competition for one graduate fellowship in
the amount of $2000 for the 2002-2003 academic year. (application due
April 1, 2002)
- The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis and Center
on Education and Work are pleased to jointly announce the Distinguished
Graduate Fellowship in Technical College Leadership. Beginning in 2002-03,
this fellowship will provide more than $23,000 of support annually to
an advanced graduate student whose research and leadership interests
focus on technical colleges.
