Matthew H. Willing Award for an Outstanding Dissertation in Progress
As a result of a generous gift from alumnus, Lloyd Jorgenson, in honor of former faculty member, Matthew H. Willing, the Department annually holds a competition for an award for excellence to a dissertation in progress. Any dissertator with an approved dissertation proposal is eligible to apply for consideration. Submissions are judged by a faculty committee appointed for the purpose based on the student's dissertation proposal and overall record.
Nominations may come from the dissertator him or herself or from the dissertation committee.
Submissions to the award committee must include at least an approved dissertation proposal and a letter of recommendation from the advisor. More materials may be included.
The actual amount of the award will be determined by the committee based on availability of funds in a given year.
A student may receive the award only once.
