2008 Fund Raising Effort

The 2008 Alumni and Friends Campaign is underway. Thanks to those who have contributed already! The ATEP relies on the support of our Alumni and Friends to help fund a variety of program efforts. We have established a modest goal of raising $5000.00 in support of our AT Education Fund and our Matching Scholarship Fund.

This modest goal was established with the idea of increasing participation in our giving program rather than the specific dollar amount. Any gift is greatly appreciated. While the AT Education Fund has the greatest need, a donation to either fund will provide needed support to our program and students.

Please visit our giving page. Thank you and On Wisconsin!

Alumni Profiles: Where are they now?

This space will routinely feature former students and friends of the ATEP. We hope you enjoy catching up with everyone.

Heidi Frey (Stettler) 1990

Curent Position: Primary Job - Personal fitness trainer at 2 local parks and recreation facilities Secondary Job - as needed ATC with local PTclinic/HS outreach.
My style of personal training is blending my injury prevention skills into an exercise program for any age individual. For anyone thinking of this, it is great to have a lot of injury rehabilitation experience, it gives you the knowledge to know what tools you want to tap into and the ability to talk confidently to your clients.

Madison Memories: I can't think of one specific time, but I remember the friendships with my peer athletic trainers and all the shared memories...work...classes...and of course fun times too!

Advice to Students: Remember that your profession is to take care of people. Put the interests of the injured athlete as your highest priority. How you care for each one reflects your character. Enjoy the rollercoaster ride of the sport seasons - they will exhaust you but fill you with wonderful memories Also, because it is a helping profession it is an easy profession to overdo yourself and/or be taken advantage of. Use your knowledge wisely and learn to delegate tasks. Learn...Learn...Learn...you will continue on this path the rest of your career...you just won't have to write papers unless you want to!

Personal Data: I am married to Travis Frey. He works at Monsanto in Huxley, IA as a corn breeder in the discovery breeding group. Since he travels alot...I have my buddy Zea...she is a german shepard mix from the shelter. She is a great workout partner and has shown signs of being a potential search and rescue dog, so we are pursuing this area of training for both of us...so if you get lost in the Iowa woods or a collapsed Iowa building in a couple years...we may be the ones finding you!

Sue Holmquist (Klossner) 1998

Curent Position: I am currently the rehabilitation director and physical therapist for 2 nursing homes. We not only see residents, but also see outpatients.

Madison Memories: Hands down-The 1999 Rose Bowl. I was working with the football team (getting my last clinical hours) and got to be a part of the whole experience. I still have all my memorabilia hanging up in my workout room and usually talk about it every time I watch Badger football. During my time with the football team, I got to travel a lot of new places and meet many wonderful people.

Advice to Students: Take advantage of every hands on experience that you can be a part of.

Personal Data: I met my husband, Mike, my first week of school at Madison. We have been married 4 1/2 years now and are expecting our first child in January 2007.
