Accreditation/Certification
The Occupational Therapy Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 4720 Montgomery Lane, PO Box 31220, Bethesda, MD 20824-1220. AOTA's telephone number is 301-652-AOTA. Accreditation occurs on a regularly scheduled cycle.

Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the "occupational therapist registered" certification examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). Most states also require licensure in order to practice; however state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Some states have separate licensure requirements, and students will need to acquaint themselves with rules governing practice in states of their choice.
