Group Advising Sessions for Prospective Students
Interested in
Occupational Therapy
Dates: Tuesdays-Nov 10, 2009. The advising sessions are only offered during the fall semester. New dates TBA
Time: 4:45-5:30 pm (the starting time allows individuals to park for free in Lot
20 and get to the meeting on time)
Location: PLEASE NOTE ROOM CHANGE: Room 3130, Medical Sciences Center,
1300 University Avenue (corner of Charter St. & University Ave.
Directions: Enter the front of the building; proceed ahead to the center of the
building;
take the stairs or elevator to 3rd floor; turn RIGHT;
walk through the large brown fire doors and Room 3130 is at the end of the hall.
Parking: Free parking may be available in Lot 20 which is on the right just past
our
building driving West on University Ave. Otherwise, you will have to find street
parking which can be difficult. It takes about 5 minutes to walk from Lot 20 to
room 3130. Walk out to University Ave., turn left and enter the Medical Sciences
Center through the main entrance.
Agenda: Group advising sessions are informal and the agenda is adjusted
according to the interests of the participants. Topics may include:
- Occupational Therapy as a Career Choice (see FAQ’s below)
- The MSOT Degree Program at UW-Madison
- Prerequisites for Admission (see link above titled Admission Criteria)
- Application Process (see link above titled Applying)
- Pre-OT Club at UW-Madison
- Choice of Undergraduate Majors and Helpful Courses (see FAQ’s below)
Who Should Attend: All prospective students are encouraged to attend a group advising
session
if possible. Interested friends and/or family members are welcome.
Contact: Sessions are hosted by the Admissions Coordinator. It is not necessary
to “sign up” for sessions, but an email would be appreciated at otadmissions@education.wisc.edu.

Tours: Check the main UW website for information on campus tours which usually begin
at 3:00pm on weekdays.
Occupational Therapy Program Overview
The Occupational Therapy Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, located
within the School of Education,
Department of Kinesiology, was established in 1943. The Occupational Therapy
Program is commited to the belief that each human being has the right to participate
in self-selected, meaningful and culturally relevant occupations that contribute
to or improve health and well-being and quality of life. Graduate education provides
students with a foundation in theories of occupational science and behavior, as
well as the knowledge and skills necessary for evidenced-based professional practice
and research. The program strives to train students to become leaders within the
profession.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison is one of
the finest institutions of higher education in the nation. With its strong research
tradition, commitment to learning and service, and a wealth of resources, students
have multiple opportunities to pursue their interests.

Entry Level Professional Degree
Advanced degrees for Occupational Therapists

Master of Science in Therapeutic Science
(MS-TS)
For those individuals with baccalaureate degrees in occupational therapy who want
to strengthen their knowledge of occupational therapy theory and research.

Ph.D. in Kinesiology, Therapeutic Science
Track (Ph.D.) For those individuals already in the occupational therapy
profession who have completed a masters degree and who seek further training in
research and scholarly preparation.
In accordance with the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) mandate
that all certification for entry into the profession occur at the post-baccalaureate
level by January 2007, the Occupational Therapy Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
has phased out the baccalaureate program in occupational therapy. Undergraduate
students are no longer being accepted.
