Adapted Physical Activity Opportunities

Adapted Physical Education is an area of concentration within the undergraduate Physical Education Teacher Preparation program in the Department of Kinesiology. It focuses on the adaptation of programs, equipment, facilities and evaluation of individuals with special needs in a physical activity setting. Students may choose this option and become certified in this area through the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The certification is a "tag-on" license to the PE teacher certification license and cannot be obtained independent of the PE teaching certificate. The Adapted PE area of concentration requires 15 credits of course work in the Department of Kinesiology and the Department of Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education. See course requirements for more details.
