Mary Louise Gomez, PhD

Mary Louise Gomez, PhD is Professor & Chair of Literacy Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she works with prospective and practicing teachers to help prepare them to successfully teach diverse populations of students, including English language learners. Professor Gomez's scholarship has focused on the identity development of pre-service teachers as they are enrolled in a teacher education program preparing them to teach for social justice and equity. She currently is engaged in a research project concerning how prospective Latino/a teachers perceive, understand, and experience their university education and the elementary education program at UW-Madison, and how they, their university-based and school-based teacher educators understand their identities and successes.
