CCBC: Looking for new books to read, discuss?

Thursday, August 06, 2009 -

Sense of Place, Sense of Self,” a new bibliography from the Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC), explores fiction for older elementary through high school readers in which the modern-day setting plays a critical role.

Beyond descriptions of frigid tundras, vibrant neighborhoods and moody coastlines, the surroundings depicted in these titles provide perspective on the internal landscape of the protagonists. In each of these novels, the personal terrain traversed by the characters mirrors the physical terrain of the setting.

Whether selecting books for an immersing reading experience or as inspiration for writing activities, these books are rife with unforgettable scenes and situations.

The Cooperative Children’s Book Center (CCBC) is a unique examination, study and research library of the UW-Madison School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison that supports teaching, learning and research related to children’s and young adult literature.

The CCBC website also links to web presentations (sponsored by the South Central Library System) and videos (sponsored by the Four Lakes Distance Education Network) of CCBC librarians discussing books listed CCBC Choices 2009. Here are those links:
