science: Power in publishing
Journals vary in the impact that they have
in the research community. A journal like JAMA is well-known
among the research community and general public and is highly
ranked in terms of impact. To broaden the impact of occupational
science and increase the interdisciplinary study of occupation,
researchers need to select widely disseminated interdisciplinary
journals. The
Journal Citation Reports (JCR) is a resource that evaluates
journals. It is a subscriber service which is available
at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and many other universities:
- Ranks over 8,400 journals world wide
- Provides information on the impact, size,
and frequency of use of journals
- Covers both science and social science
For topic areas, the JCR index will sort and
resort journals related to their impact, immediacy, cited
half life, total number of citations in a year or alphabetically.
The help section explains the import of each of the indices.
This allows the author to choose a venue for publication
that meets their needs and has the most impact.
