Programs of Advanced Study in Counseling Psychology
Description:
The Department of Counseling Psychology currently offers three programs in advanced studies.
The Advanced Studies in Professional Counseling is a program of study which combines coursework, mentorship, and supervision to enhance professional skills and to better prepare the post-masters counselor for licensure.
The Department of Counseling Psychology also sponsors a program in Advanced Studies in Equity & Cultural Competence. The goal of this program is to help educators understand the non-cognitive factors that impede academic success and how they can address these factors within educational settings to help facilitate student achievement. Additionally, the program helps foster the development of participants' awareness, knowledge, and skills in servicing culturally diverse clients and students as well as guide teachers, counselors, and other professionals in their continued pursuit of cultural competence, as outlined in the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's Administrative Rule, PI 34.
The Advanced Studies Program in Engaged Pedagogy is a cluster of courses that supports initial educators and other school-based educators seeking opportunities for reflective, relevant professional growth. The program consists of a series of 6-8 required 3-credit courses. It is expected that this certificate would take two to three years to complete.
