The four Wisconsin 2013 Principals of the Year were unveiled on Monday by Wisconsin State Superintendant Tony Evers and Jim Lynch, the executive director for the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators -- and all have ties to the School of Education.

Blank recommended as next UW-Madison chancellor
UW System President Kevin Reilly is recommending that that the Acting U.S. Secretary of Commerce become the next chancellor of UW-Madison. Reilly and a special committee of the UW System Board of Regents announced their recommendation Monday. The full Board of Regents is scheduled to vote on the recommendation April 5.

U.S. News again ranks SoE graduate programs among best in nation
UW-Madison's School of Education retained its top program ranking in both curriculum and instruction, and educational psychology, while seven SoE programs in all were ranked among the top five nationally by education school deans and deans of graduate studies.

SoE Explores New 'Frontiers' during American Education Week 2012: Nov. 12-16
Educational research has always informed educational practices. Recently, research results in neuroscience and cognitive science have begun to yield information that also has the potential to inform classroom practices and improve outcomes for learners. The American Education Week presentations focus on this frontier, examining how brain-based research and education research intersect and how both inform educational practices.

US News Ranks More SOE Programs in Top 3
Two more graduate programs in the UW-Madison School of Education now rank among the top three among their peers across the country, bringing the School’s total up to nine. Counseling Psychology moved up from sixth to second and Educational Policy Studies moved up from fourth to third. Overall, the School held its ninth place ranking among more than 200 schools of education nationally, according to U.S. News and World Report’s 2013 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools.

Research Project Helps Latin@ Families Overcome the Effects of Parental Depression
The effects of parental depression on a child can be many, varied and deeply rooted. One such effect is taking on parental responsibilities out of a conscious, or subconscious, desire to maintain normalcy in the home. Counseling Psychology Professor Carmen Valdez and her interdisciplinary student research team have spent the past two years setting up and running an outreach program to help Latino children and families overcome the struggles they face surrounding parental depression.
