Members of UW-Madison’s Wisconsin Equity and Inclusion Laboratory (Wei LAB) traveled to Boulder, Colo., in November for a workshop related to the Geoscience Diversity Experiential Simulations (GeoDES) Project, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The three-day workshop, held Nov. 13-15, helped participants think critically about race, gender and sexual identity, as well as develop leadership techniques and skills. The workshop included bystander intervention training through the use of virtual reality technology.

Li Chiao-Ping Dance performed "Landed," a full length, evening concert​ exploring the immigration climate in the U.S., on Dec. 2 at Iowa State University in Ames. "Landed" is a MAP Fund-supported collaboration between choreographer Li Chiao-Ping and visual artist Douglas Rosenberg that brings spoken text together with Rosenberg's acclaimed, poignant visual designs and Li's signature, inventive movement to engage stories of immigration from past to present. Li is a Vilas Research Professor and a faculty member with the School of Education’s Dance Department. Rosenberg chairs the School's Art Department.

UW-Madison's Julie Underwood authored another "Under the Law" column for Phi Delta Kappan magazine, with her latest report examining teachers' classroom speech and the legal rights of school boards in determining what materials are appropriate for the classroom.

UW-Madison’s Jessica Perez-Chavez will be assisting with the review and selection process for Division 45’s scientific programming at the American Psychological Association’s 2018 Annual Convention. Perez-Chavez is a Ph.D. student with the School of Education’s Department of Counseling Psychology and will be serving as the Scientific Program Graduate Student Assistant for the division. APA’s Division 45 is the Society for the Psychological Study of Culture, Ethnicity and Race.
