UW-Madison's Julie Underwood was named to a Blue Ribbon Commission on School Funding that was announced by Wisconsin's legislative leaders on Wednesday, Dec. 6. The commission will be chaired by Sen. Luther Olsen (R-Ripon) and Rep. Joel Kitchens (R-Sturgeon Bay). "Hopefully the commission will provide an opportunity for legislators, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and practicing educators to improve educational opportunities for Wisconsin’s children," says Underwood, the Susan Engeleiter Professor of Education Law, Policy and Practice, and the former dean of the School of Education.

UW-Madison's Aristotle Georgiades and Gail Simpson are vying to make a new piece of art for Pennsylvania Park on Madison's east side, reports an article from The Capital Times. Georgiades and Simpson are professors of sculpture in the School of Education's Art Department. They are best known as the artistic team Actual Size Artworks, based in Stoughton. The art commission for the location in Pennsylvania Park is worth $40,000, and a panel of volunteers from the Madison Arts Commission with expertise as visual artists, musicians and educators chose Actual Size Artworks as one artist pair option for the neighborhood to consider.

UW-Madison's Helen Lee was featured in an article from the October/November 2017 issue of American Craft ​Magazine. Lee is a faculty member with the UW-Madison School of Education's Art Department.
