May 01, 2018
UW-Madison's Joseph Koykkar's multiple musical compositions have been performed across the Midwest this spring.

Koykkar is a composer and professor with the School of Education's Dance Department

The musical composition "Circumstance" was performed on March 3 as part of the Wisconsin New Music Festival at UW-Oshkosh, sponsored by the Wisconsin Alliance for Composers. The Wisconsin Alliance for Composers is a non-profit founded in 1984 to encourage and support the composition and performance of new music by Wisconsin composers.

Koykkar's saxophone quarter "Inside Out" was performed on April 6 at the Society of Composers Regional Conference at Kansas State University. The Society of Composers is a professional society dedicated to the promotion, performance, understanding and dissemination of new and contemporary music. Members include composers both in and outside academia interested in addressing these concerns on a national and regional level.

And on April 27, Koykkar's percussion work entitled "Time in Transcendence" was performed by the Western Percussion Ensemble of the UW-Madison School of Music.
