Alum Holmes highlighted in State Journal's 'Know Your Madisonian' feature

January 23, 2017

UW-Madison alumnus Edward Holmes was recently featured in the Wisconsin State Journal’s “Know Your Madisonian” report.

A native of Washington, D.C., Holmes came to UW-Madison to complete undergraduate degrees in English and political science, a master’s in social work and a Ph.D. from the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. Holmes is a member of the UW-Madison School of Education’s Board of Visitors.

According to the State Journal report, Holmes was recently named the Overture Center's first executive director of diversity and inclusion. In his new position, Holmes says he will be working on making the Overture Center more inclusive, both in terms of the staff and the patrons it serves.

Holmes took on the position after leaving retirement from 24 years of work in the Madison School District. He is the former principal at West High School and Wright Middle School.

The report quotes Holmes as saying: “I want to continue to provide an avenue for people to experience the arts because I think it’s an important part of who we are as people. ... There’s no reason for anyone to be excluded from that experience.”
