UW-Madison alum Grade profiled in Waunakee Tribune as teacher, artist

December 21, 2017
UW-Madison alumnus Tom Grade was recently profiled in the Waunakee (Wis.) Tribune in an article headlined, "Tom Grade: An artist and teacher who carves wood."

Grade earned his art education certification from the School of Education in 1957. Grade taught middle school art in Beloit for two years, and then moved to the Madison school district to teach art classes at Marquette Middle School.

After attending more classes at UW-Madison, Grade became the audio-visual director at Memorial High School, handling all of the school's camera work, movies and transparencies with the rest of the AV department. Grade retired from education at age 60, the article says.

Grade has also worked in woodcarving for 25 years. Over the years, his talent and the scope of the projects has evolved, and now he enjoys creating caricatures.

"I’ve always been interested in art but my strongest suit is teaching and inspiring,” Grade told the Waunakee Tribune.
