UW-Madison’s Moeller researching ‘The Education Business’ in Brazil, U.S.

October 06, 2015

UW-Madison’s Kathryn Moeller received fellowships from the U.S. Fulbright Scholars Program and the Wenner-Gren Foundation for her study titled, “The Education Business."

Kathryn Moeller
Her comparative ethnographic research project seeks to understand how and why corporations are influencing educational contexts marked by deep racial, gender, and class inequities in the U.S. and Brazil.

Moeller, an assistant professor with the Department of Educational Policy Studies, is spending the 2015-16 academic year conducting research in Brazil.

She aims to understand the intended and unintended effects of corporate influence on curriculum, teaching and funding in education, and on the relationships between students, teachers, parents, administrators and corporate funders.

Upon completion of fieldwork in Brazil, the project will expand to the U.S. context.
