Mauriell Amechi photoCongratulations to Mauriell H. Amechi, who has been awarded an ACPA Foundation Grant for his research project, "Straight out of Foster Care: A Qualitative Anti-deficit Study of Student Achievers."

Amechi’s research focuses on the experiences of underserved populations in higher education, with a particular emphasis on foster care youth and their college transitions, specifically examining issues of equity, access, identity, student engagement, and college persistence. His study will examine the experiences and college transitions of academically high-achieving foster youth, with particular attention to factors that enable them to thrive in college despite previous educational disadvantage.

Amechi is an Advanced Opportunity Research Fellow and doctoral candidate at UW-Madison in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (ELPA).
