UW-Madison's Gail Prasad helped secure a new grant for Thoreau Elementary School to design and implement Multilingual Project Based Learning for the 2017-18 school year. The grant supporting the Multilingual Project Based Learning is worth $15,104 for the 2017-18 school year, and will support multilingual projects across all grade levels. The grant is funded by the Foundation for Madison's Public Schools in partnership with the Evjue Foundation. Prasad applied for the grant with Kathy Costello, the principal at Thoreau Elementary School, and Amanda Clarahan, a teacher.

UW-Madison’s Rachelle Winkle-Wagner is receiving the Dr. Carlos J. Vallejo Memorial Award for Exemplary Scholarship from the American Educational Research Association’s Multicultural/Multiethnic Education Special Interest Group. Winkle-Wagner’s research focuses on how students of color survive and thrive in college. She is an associate professor with the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis.
