Connecting To Your Home Folder
1. From the Finder, click on the Go menu. Then click the Connect to Server... menu option.

2. In the Connect to Server dialog box, type
smb://soe-b8.ad.education.wisc.edu/<YOUR USERNAME> under Server Address. Then click the + button to add it to the Favorite Servers list. Click Connect to continue.
3. The Connecting To Server dialog box will appear. You will then be prompted for your login information. Make sure that SOE-AD is entered in the Workgroup or Domain box, then enter your username and password. Click OK to continue.

4. After successfully logging in to the server, an icon for your home folder will appear on the desktop. Create an alias (shortcut) to your home folder by clicking the <USERNAME> icon once to select it, and then clicking on the File menu and choosing the Make Alias menu option.

5. You now have an alias (shortcut) to your home folder on your desktop. This alias will remain on your desktop and can be used to access your home folder without using the Connect to Server dialog. You will still need to enter your login information to access your home folder.

Connecting To Your Group Share
1. From the Finder, click on the Go menu. Then click the Connect to Server... menu option.

2. In the Connect to Server dialog box, type
smb://soe-b8.ad.education.wisc.edu/soe_departments under Server Address. Then click the + button to add it to the Favorite Servers list. Click Connect to continue.

3. The Connecting To Server dialog box will appear. You will then be prompted for your login information. Make sure that SOE-AD is entered in the Workgroup or Domain box, then enter your username and password. Click OK to continue.


4. After successfully logging in to the server, an icon for the SOE Departments folder will appear on the desktop. Double-click the SOE_DEPARTMENTS icon to open a list of group shares in the SOE Departments folder. To create an alias (shortcut) on your desktop to a department share that you have access to:
- Click the icon of the share once to select it.
- Click and drag the share to an empty space on your desktop while holding the Option and Command keys on your keyboard.
- Release the mouse button first, then release the Option and Command keys.
- If you're unsure of the name of your department's folder, contact the Helpdesk at helpdesk@education.wisc.edu or 5-4773.

5. You now have an alias (shortcut) to your group share(s) on your desktop. This alias will remain on your desktop and can be used to access your home folder without using the Connect to Server dialog. You will still need to enter your login information to access your group share.
