Alum Luedke receives Outstanding Research Award from UW–Whitewater’s College of Education and Professional Studies

May 03, 2019

Courtney Luedke received the 2019 Outstanding Research Award from UW-Whitewater's College of Education and Professional Studies.

Courtney LuedkeLuedke is an alumna of UW-Madison who earned her Ph.D. from the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis in 2014.

Luedke is an assistant professor and the interim coordinator of the higher education leadership program at UW–Whitewater.

Her research examines how students of color, and Latinx students in particular, are socialized into, and within, the academy. She seeks to examine critical, bi-directional socialization that encourages students to bring their identities into their educational experiences.

This work is tied to Luedke’s desire to increase the pipeline of students of color pursuing graduate education, which is woven to her commitment to diversifying leadership in colleges and universities.

One of Luedke’s current projects explores how institutional policy and practices shape undocumented Latina/o/x students’ educational experiences and career planning. This project has been funded by the NASPA Region IX-E and several institutional grants at UW-Whitewater.

Her professional experiences center on pre-collegiate and summer bridge programs; undergraduate research experiences; and student support programs for first-generation students and students of color.

Luedke’s research has been published in: the American Educational Research Journal; Review of Higher Education; Journal of College Student Development; Journal of Diversity in Higher Education; and the Journal of Hispanic Higher Education.
